Welcome to the group Gurdeep. You are right, the best way to learn is to read documentation for yourself and trying things out on your GNU/Linux box.
There are a lot of sources for good documentation on the internet as well as in your own system. Check out the following for example.
* The directory called /usr/share/doc ... this contains documenation for all the packages installad on your system. * If you are using RedHat, do make sure you have installed the guides available with the distribution, such as the RedHat Installation Guide, the RedHat System Administrators Guide and so on. * The Linux Documentation Project (TLDP), hosted at http://www.tldp.org/ is a wonderful source of information. The documentation is available in two important forms, besides others - guides (big books on specific topics), HOWTOs (smaller documents on very specific things you might want to do, and mini-HOWTOs (even smaller documents that are too small to be called a HOWTO. * Also check out the info pages and man pages on your system. If you are using either the KDE or GNOME desktops, their file managers provide a browseable interface to the docs on your machine.
Hope this provides sufficient pointers for you for further exploration!
