I also tried changing port of ktorrent client to 40000+ and it seemed to work all of a sudden the torrent came to life. Though its not runing now. I'll leave it on later and see the results.

May be Hathway is blocking the protocol by using packeteer or something similar. This sucks big time. But I think you mentioned that it works in windows. So it should work in Linux too. BTW I dunno about installing bittorrent. I have it on my debian router and to install it, i just had to issue: apt-get install bittorrent. Which distro are you using? Dont you have an automated tool that can install it?? (or atleast find out the dependencies?)
