Wanted to give ubuntu a spin. So downloaded the ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso and burned to cd. Then booted. Splash screen comes up with the language option followed by Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer. Then nothing. Hit enter. still nothing Check all the options and try to edit the command line. No go.
Same with karmic Koala Alpha4
so what witch craft is needed to proceed beyond the splash screen?
Probably the standard advice everyone is doled out on Ubuntu Forums. :P 1]Check the CD for errors
None
2]If faulty, burn at slow speed, <8x if possible 3]Do a test of memory
Mem is ok. The machine is my working amd lenny / etch / sarge/ woody and boots from cd / usb / hardisk without a hitch.
And since it was two distros and two different cds i thought it might be something special.
Tried it on another machine. Tried it on a laptop. No go. And a thoroughly scratched 2 year old super grub boot disk works on all the machines like a charm.
So if nobody's complaining about LTS9.04 or KK Alpha4 and there is no magic spell, it must be a hex on the cd blanks.
