I'm trying to install gcc-2.96-84.i386.rpm ( taken from the PCQ Linux CD) on a RHL 6.2 (zoot ?) m/c.
The
installation is almost a yr old and it does not have
any of the development tools as well
as compiler ..
When I issue the following command
$ rpm -i gcc-2.96-84.i386.rpm
I get the following error
Error : The current version of rpm only supports
packages having major number <= 3.
Install the upgrade RPM, I will mail you the upgrade rpm on your e-mail ID. I am not sure whether this version is available for download, but I have it on my disk.
Run the foll. as root.
# rpm -Uvh rpm-3_0_5-9_6x_i386.rpm
This will upgrade your rpm. Installing the gcc rpm may then work.
