Hi,
Im planning to buy a new laptop, and i intend to use Linux as the operating system i use on the machine. My old latop had Via chipset in it, and therefore i have faced lots of trouble in making Linux work on it, so this time i want to make sure that the machine I buy, would fully support it.
Best possible aproach is to buy a laptop preinstalled GNU/Linux distribution. That ensures full support for all the hardware in the laptop. That also encourages manufacturers to sale more laptops and models preinstalled with GNU/Linux.
So, i need some recommendations as to which laptop would be the best as far as Linux support goes. I am planning to buy a Dell Inspiron 1525. Is it the right choice or should i consider something else ?
However, if your workload does not match the existing awailable systems please make a list of models which match your reauirement.
Once you have few models please check the compatibilty of each model with GNU/Linux and seach and/or ask on this or other mailing list.
I had in past lenovo r60 which was 100% compatible with Ububtu 6.04
I recently bought Acer Aspire One (Intel Atom processor) preinstalled with linpus Linux and since then I have replaced linpus with Fedora Core 10. All the hardware is working fine. (card reader not tested)
Thank You
