Y is the world so biased towards Windows when they themselves are using Linux to push their products ?
wells its quite simple if they endorse it they need to support it . ibm provides support information but doesnot directly support it .
the distros bundled are usually unusable since they are not bundled with prebuilt drivers for modems / wireless etc .
i know some big cos working with oems to over come this.
when any oem manufacturer says "we recommed XyZ software " a part of the media campagin / or whatever arrangement is shared by the XyZ software company . not many linux cos are in a position to do this.
linux on desktop requires a far more commitment from both os and oem vendors which is slowly moving in a positive trend.

I think users can continue using the linux version that comes with these
laptops had they been fully functional version of linux , but i know from one of my cousin who got a acer laptop with linux installed on it that the pre-installed version even lacked the gui . Linux i think should be given full respect and should not be used by manufacturers to j ust to lower costs
