The brainstorming did begin with a rant about the lack of an Indian download mirror for SF.net, somewhat along the lines of the JAIST download mirror. It then veered off towards providing a platform for students - India (and student) specific software being mirrored on an Indian "Sourceforge".
Its a good idea to have a platform for students to enter FOSS programming. I guess SF is quite intimidating for a beginner (some may disagree with me on this). I missed something like this during my project days (which is just a few weeks ago ;-) )
There are many projects on sourceforge that have been abandoned and can be taken up by some students for their academic projects. We could sort these projects out from sourceforge and present those ideas too. That would be a good way to start out as there is some base already developed.
