I do not think VSNL will be in any actual legal trouble. But Intel had to withdraw CPU's with the serial number due to people who "cherish" their privacy. Blocking spam is a completely different thing. You identify complete emails received from a dubious sources and block them. When you alter private emails you are breaching privacy. I dont think there is a "law" to prevent it, but it is /not/ the "Right Thing(tm)" to do IMHO.
