check if .xinitrc is present in your home directory, rename it to .xinitrc.ol, give a try.
Worked! Thanks a lot, Haris. .xinitrc was the culprit. But it was blank file ?????????

try to login as root and run sax .
tell me if it helps
Hi Harsh! I tried with sax by keeping copy of .xinitrc in home directory. But X starts only when I remove .xinitrc from Home directory.
So sax solution doesn't work.
Thanks to all of you for solutions.
