i've generally found, that if one buying a Mac and one does not want to
use
Mac OS X(of which some components of the GUI(Aqua) are under non free licenses), either fry the machine and put a GNU/Linux distribution on it
or
don't use Aqua, install a Free GUI and the other Free app's with along
with
Darwin. That's the way to go.
Extremist view. Nothing wrong in developing or using Free Software on
Mac OS X with Aqua.
Even thought Aqua is not 100% Free as in Freedom software? Well if you think that's fine, that's your opinion, however others do not share it. If i get into the whole DRM(in OS X and other products) issue with Apple, that's another story all together.
In fact, it's quite an enjoyable experience :)
No doubt the sheer beauty of Aqua is truly breathtaking and yes usability wise they do take care of ALL the little details.
However, be it a GUI or a woman - grace, beauty, charm, aesthetics but a refusal to Open her secrets is not IMHO the ideal situation ;-) Even though it could be INFINITELY enjoyable :-)
For the record i have worked a decent bit on Mac's on both Classic and OS X.
