Check". disable it. u will have to edit wvdial.conf in /etc directory. just add Carrier Check = No in the file. this should do the trick.
I tried this and it does not work. Actually, the problem seems to be some "misunderstanding" between the modem and the telephone exchanger (PBX box?) of the institute. I can access other direct lines with no problem. The one that I have problems with is an extension number of the institute. Perhaps my modem (GVC 33Kbps) is too old (more than 3 years old) and I should buy some D-Link.... Any suggestions about a good modem?
