Upgrade to rpm 3.0.6. That supports rpm 4 packages and doesn't require db3 libs.
To install rpm-4.0.1, you seem to be missing db3 libraries. I think www.sleepycat.com is the site for these libs.
I was installing rpm-3.0.6-6xa.ppc.rpm and it gave me a failed dependencies error : ld.so.1 and libb22.so.1
I have already installed ld.so-1.9.5-13.i386.rpm and do not know why the error occurs.
