No problems. U only need the boot partition withinin the portion recognizable by the bios. Once the kernel is loaded, linux will use any disk. Linux does not use bios calls for any io. It's only the bootloader which uses bios calls.
It's not that simple. The newer drives definitely create problems with older motherboards like mine...I have tried a 20GB one and the computer just locks up. It doesnt POST :(
