In todays world, many open source projects go dead because of many reasons. The main reason may be because of less collaboration or developers fail to hand over to the upcoming interested peoples. Why open source
The main reason for failure of projects is simply loss of interest of the developers. It has nothing to do with lack of collaboration as communication in the end is instantaneous.
it should be made better.
The hottest buzz word in the internet world is Web 2.0. In that the most
You put it in the right words. Web 2.0 is a buzz, a myth created by marketing to attract internet users to put up their personal information online, have it abused and then cry on about it.
talked is the community based sites. Nowadays, in news i can see many social networking sites created for specific purpose. For music sharing, news sharing, photos sharing, technology sharing, etc. Why not a social networking site specific to open source code sharing and for open source people connections?..
There is; it's called Sourceforge and it works so brilliantly well that it's unbelievable :) It has everything from a scrap book (feature requests/bug report tool/patch tool), message box (mailing list), cool-rating (project rating w.r.t. downloads, traffic, etc.) and also a place to put photos (screenshots).
I searched thru internet to get one good social networking site to integrate with the open source developers world wide. But i failed. Is there a social networking site exist particularly for open source developers ??? .. It would be fun if such a social networking site is there.. ;)
There's many; Sourceforge.net, freshmeat.net, savannah.org, etc.
The first problem a programmer gets while entering into open source world is the collaboration. They get help through the LUGs however. But, what about the collaboration in a global perspective ?
I never found that much of a problem right from my first days. It's not that I hate networking sites or community sites; I'm a member of orkut as well. But that serves me a different purpose; that of re-uniting with my school friends. There's absolutely no way that one can collaborate on development there.
If there is no such social networking site (for sharing interests, code, features needed etc) for the open source world at present, why not a social networking site be created?.. (is there any plans of such like?)
List down the exact features that you will need for such a site. You will find that most, if not all features already present in sourceforge, freshmeat, etc.
