<snip>
There was no need for you to do any bum licking. I don't understand what prompted you to do so.
I strongly suggest you arrest the profanities.
I told that you can take cds from me, install in your machine (2-3-4times) and return the cd. In the past also I have shared & burned cds for many newbees, because once upon a time the word debian & linux was very much new to me & Dr. Nagarjun not only burned 3 CDs for me but also for that 1.5 hrs answered all my stupid & dumb questions. I was just trying to keep the chain alive.
Navin, maybe you forgot what a Linux dumbo you were exactly a year ago, when I voluntarily came to your house to install Linux for you since I was in that part of town. I left your place [Goregaon] at 2.30 am for my place at Vashi. Maybe you should have at least suggested to help out with the home fare! [330/- bucks] And to top it all, I introduced you to Dr Nagarjun. You also borrowed 2 CDs from me and returned them after 3+ months. Remember????
Since then you have suddenly become some sort of Star of David-cum-moral-beacon for the other newbies. Sadly, but too late, they could have taken a fruitful lesson in arrogance and conceit from you. Like I helped you, you have to help others - with patience and time. Not Linux only. That was my deal.
I even introduced you to the imp people at CHIP HQ at Nerul, where you went about your merry incorrigible marketing ways trying to sell your .jpgs and what-have-you to them. Much to all our initial discomfiture but nonetheless contained amusement. The Icing: Then I give you a trainee job at freeos.com after listening to your intermittent and tall mktg claims ad inifinituum. [Reminded me of myself 18 yrs astern when I was your age]. You have been suddenly transformed into this holier than thou Methuselah-Solomon hybrid sprinkling gems of hemlockish wisdom within and without and whereever.
Well, Triptpal Singh Lamba, I have every available Linux distro in Sol 3. Contact me and take it for free, forever. Price : show me in 2 mins flat your interest in Open source. I WILL know, pronto. - and then share it with others - by going the extra parsec - like I am doing now. I also happen to have all the versions of Oracle from 5.1B [1986] thru 9i, PHP, and a whole lot more. All the smart chappies were doing Sums or is it Number Work then, eh?
...philip recommends it and he seems to be a self claimed guru so who
i am to dispute --
Philip spent 4 hrs of his Sun last,at the LUG meet at the FreeOS offices teaching others how to tune the kernel. He could well have spent Sun imbibing Ale with his compadres, or cavorting amidst copious flora with some femme fatale, or listening to Miles Davis reclining sybartically in his favourite chair 'im Heim'. But he chose this. Such sorts are more than Gurus. Gurus reek of a nostalgic claim to fame if not fortune. I would call him a Messiah - who spreads the Good Word - in a more benign and unintrusive way. Thank God, they are many like him on this list and others.
<jtdsouza added...>
Philip never claimed to be a guru - nor does anyone else on the list. But I would reccomend attending the meets and listening to the talks, where you could judge for your self. Better still give a talk on any subject and others might confer gurudom on you.
Sounder advice, verbatim, could not be found in Terra Firma.
