This is not the first and probably not the last, that we will read of such tactics. They tried to hijack Java by adding their own extensions until Sun sued them. They will probably settle out of court. There were rumors of similar tactics when they came out wth the Wheel Mouse.
BTW, many companies (w/ deep pockets) do this to their smaller vendors. I have personal experience. The smaller vendors in their eagerness to land a contract divulge IP w/o proper legal protection and viola soon their idea becomes the company's innovation.
