LFY dvds are of abysymal quality. Every one of the dvds recieved in the mag were defective. Worse, they become completely unusable in a few weeks.
Maybe Sony BMG should think of giving the contract of producing DRMed CDs/DVDs to LFY :P
Getting back on topic...
Rony, the only reason that Linux "hangs" is due to a driver / kernel bug or hardware failure. What was the hardware that you were using. Please post it. Also, if only X is crashing then you might have to fine tune the config file to get it going.
My hardware is most nixy. It has seen a lot of linux distros. P4 2.4 Ghz., Intel 845 GEBV2 (one of the very good mobos from Intel) , 256 MB RAM. The thing that gets me bugged is that I have to still tackle basic installation problems rather than new ones, in the new distros. But maybe the LFY DVD was crap.
One other thing I would like to add and that is that the new distros are heavy on resources so those using 256 MB RAM machines could safely create a 2 GB swap for better performance. I was facing a bug in OO in Ubuntu 6.10 where it would give a 'force shutdown' error every time I closed OO. It would disappear if left unatteded and shut down properly after a slow delay. Plus opening 2 to 3 applications made the pc slow. After adding more swap space, this problem does not appear. so those using 256 mb machines should use a 2 GB swap space.
