I hope this trick is not too late, give this a try.
when booting, when lilo gives you some time to select the different OS to boot from,
press CTRL+X then enter the labelname with S for example "linux S"
Just pray that it takes you to the prompt without asking for password. I have never tried this in the fsck problem situation, it works on a normal system.
