Sometime on Jul 19, Sameer D. Sahasrabuddhe assembled some asciibets to say:
AFAIK, MSN had recently changed its authentication protocol so that all the third party clients stopped working. Something to do with an extra challenge handshake with a modified format ... people using
No, wasn't that, otherwise old MSN clients would also stop working. They did change the protocol, but there is a protocol negotiation stage when connecting to the Authentication Server. EB still uses MSNP2.0, and not 5.0 which is the latest.
The problem was that EB only did a protocol negotiation on the primary server, and not on redirects. As a result, if MSN redirected EB to a different host, EB would not tell the new host that it wanted protocol 2, and so couldn't handle protocol 5 - default.
