my cable runs on PPPOE and it has a DHCP giving live ips
but since somedays i am not able to ping any ip in the entire world, exce= pt myself
Could this be because your ISP has blocked ICMP packets? In a knee-jerk reaction after the SoBig worm deluge, a lot of ISPs have blocked ICMP packets. I know for certain that Dishnet DSL has not, and Reliance Rconnect (their Internet access service which works over their CDMA handphones) has. Haven't checked VSNL's dialup service recently.
I'm not getting into whether this ICMP blocking is effective in reducing exposure to the worm. :)
