i configured lilo.conf to install lilo boot loader on /dev/hda1 insted of /dev/hda and that caussedd win98 FAT16 partition's file allocation table get damaged now though the data is there around 1

lilo -u /dev/hda1 should restore the portion overwritten (this is saved in a file during installation). man lilo for further details.
