Debian potato does not seem to recognise my NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS card... Any pointers as to how to do up my display - currently I only get 320x304.. And its' not much fun :(
I have successfully installed potato on NVIDIA. First I installed without X window. Then I installed a package from debian - testing i.e. woody, which is specially for NVIDIA. Search for NVIDIA on debian testing. The package has a readme file which has got all the instruction.
But I would like you to try this first.
Install potato first without xconfiguration. Then, Install 2.4 kernel with appropriate modules selected. I prefer a non modular kernel. Then replace the keyword "potato" in the /etc/apt/sources.list file with the word "testing". and "apt-get update" then "apt-get install xserver-xfree86". If the xserver installation asks for configuration then select "nv" form the type of card. It has "nv" option in it. If it didn't ask for any new configuration then after installation is complete do "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" and then select "nv".
then "startx". (NOTE: startx command is in package xbase-clients. So if it says command not found then do "apt-get install xbase-clients")
One more problem is common in debian dist. After the above configuration is complete if startx fails. Install xfonts-base using "apt-get install xfonts-base".
then "startx"
