An industry leader might not be #1 just because they are better or innovate more. It might be that they are able to keep margins high (in other words they might be better at sucking money out of people/corporates) with ordinary products. Samsung needs every costumer they can get so they might go that extra mile of providing linux drivers/compatability. The same might not be true for HP which is sitting like a mother hens on the eggs waiting for them to hatch.
BTW just look around at the companies which are market leaders in their own segments. If they are role models then we (the computer industry) are doomed.
