The P1 Pc is detecting it as Primary master and Primary slave. Even FC3 recognises it as hdb.

Thats great for a start.
My problems 1.I do not remember what filesystem I have created on D2 although FC3 shows some partitions. I am unable to mount them.
[snip]
Perform a "fdisk -l" without the quotes ofcourse and see that the o/p of the same is. Once you know the type of filesystems you can try a "mount -t <fstype> -o rw /dev/hdxx /path/to/mount".
The FStype you can play around with is ext2/ext3/xfs/reiserfs which most distros ship with these days. No idea abt ubuntu.
- Sometimes after booting FC3 or even Slackware
when I run dmesg I get some errors of DisK_read io error
[snip]
These are the old hdd's and i have a couple of these too. I too have a lot of io_error's in dmesg. I suspected one of the disks going bad but am not too sure. I would attribute the same to some ide-dma probably since i havent been able to figure out anything more.
3.How do i format D2 and create partitions on the same
[snip]
Once you have identified the paritions just do a, "mkfs.<fstype> /dev/hdxx" and voila you have a brand new FS to mount. Use mkfs.<tab><tab> at the bash prompt to know what options your OS provides. This will depend on the modules you have compiled into the kernel.
Hope that helps.
Trevor
4.My D2 is showing as 32gb even though it is 40 gb. Can this be resolved by formatting it new
Thanks and regards
