The DSL Router you are using must support Bridge Mode. Put the router in Bridge more and on your computer use pppoe to connect to the Internet.
Now whenever you connect to the Internet, you will be assigned a public IP on interface ppp0
Aah...I connect through PPPoE/PPPoA with PVC0. Bridge mode is supported in my ROUTER from PVC2 to PVC7.
Your interpretation of the IP assignment is incorrect. I have MTNL TriBand; the modem/router has a WAN port with a dynamic _public_ IP address and a LAN ethernet port which by default is 192.168.1.1.
Does MTNL allow it subscribers to tweak the ROUTER to change it to Bridge Mode connection type? Or I am mixing up things? Arun sir, kindly elaborate a little more.
