Can I safely insert the Decklink Extreme card into the smaller x1 or x4 slots as the Decklink site says? and at the same time use the main PCI express slot in x16 mode for the graphics card? My only worry is about damaging the cards which cost about 60K each. After giving full assurances for tech. support, my supplier is getting cold feet on the tech. front especially for the Decklink card.
Your supplier is going to ditch you with a mile long list of excuses if something goes wrong anyway.
Hello JTD, I found this information from Decklink's site http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=47#DualC
So can I simply use the Decklink card in any of the other x1 or x4 PCIe slots? Is there any risk of damage that I need to avoid during assembly?
Afaik none. The PCIE is speced for fast data rates. There are no voltage changes. So it is most unlikely to damage the card on immediate operation. Further the graphics card itself states that it can run on all slots. The mobo manual should have detailed info.
