I am having AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with ASUS A7V8X Mothorboard. I have an enclosed PC cabinate to prevent my PC from dust. The cabinate opens only from front when I want to use it. I do face a heating problem. The temperature easily rises to 60+ oC
The problem is the heat-sink compound that comes pre-stuck on the heat-sink. Replace it with a decent country-made one... it works wonders.
Also, most kernels have the capability of throttling power to idle units. If you think your kernel doesn't have the functionality, you must recompile it.
I run an overclocked AMD Athlon 2400 XP with the same ASUS mainboard. The temperatures do not exceed 47C
