Hi,
Has anyone used Tata's Cable Broadband (not Tata DSL). I have been using Exatt Cablenet all this while and I am really bugged with their downtime. Tata has just recently launched cable broadband in my locality and the introductory schemes are really cheap. However I am concerned about the authentication mechanism. It seems that they are using some browser based authentication scheme so I doubt if there is any problem in connecting through linux.
If anyone has any bad or good experiences then please do inform.

Just switched to tata last month from pacenet, as services were going downhill with no changes int the rates for almost 2 years. The browser based auth is nothing but a page that u go to and type in your username/password, so not too much of a hassle with any recent version of firefox, esp if u set it up as a bookmark/homepage. Am also working on a little script that signs me in whenever i happen to get disconnected, so i can say bye-bye to that login page too. Bandwidth wise, it's pretty ok. Note, i'm using the postpaid plan, which gives me a static ip(Infinity 256), and baring uptime probs from my local cablewala(rare, not as often as pacenet), the bandwidth experience has been pretty good. i even managed to download the fedora 7-test1 livecd overnight which was a surprise for me, and torrents give me a steady 30kBps transfer rate. as always, with cable isp's YMMV, as the factors of the local cablewala are varied from area to area.
p.s. - if anyone wants to try out the live cd of f-7, do let me know, can pass it on. They've actually included support and fonts of almost every indian language, all on the live itself. give it a spin. also, it's a great way to test and see if your graphics card is capable of running the cool 3D desktops via aiglx ad compiz/beryl.
