Well regarding the VCD problem....even in my FC5 box , VCD's dont play in Kaffeine(I tried for the first time yesterday.) But they played perfectly in Mplayer. With the Xine libs and w32 Dlls I could play MPG file extracted from VCD in Kaffeine.
So I think its the problem with the new mounting system in SUSE and Fedora.(the one without the fstab entry)..till then use Mplayer.

JFYI, the player uses the raw device ie. /dev/hdX

It does not work even with that entry in the path text box.

I have SuSE 10.0 (subfs to automount CD/DVD drives), and have gone thru the exercise of installing the multimedia RPMs from the Packman and SuSE-Guru sites.
I am experiencing similar problems as the OP with **some** VCDs (video clips of Hindi songs). With these VCDs Kaffeine launches and displays the title and crashes, MPlayer complaints it cannot find the VCD in the drive. However, some VCDs and all DVDs play fine. Will look in the SuSE support forums to see if there is any solution.

I get the feeling that the players are built for the older method of mounting cds. Once they update themselves to the new methods, the problem should be resolved.

Nothing personal, but this and several other threads on this group are going way too long. I am sorry Rony, but by now, you should've understood what to do to play multimedia. If you still haven't post on Suse forums, after sufficient searching. Please end this topic here!

What is the problem if the thread grows too long? BTW you shouldn't have hijacked his thread. Start a new one for threads-growing-too-long-discussion :P

You haven't included my mail to which you have responded. If you read through the thread you would have noticed that I am already playing multimedia on my system. The discussion was over anyway.
Some topics may be of interest to us and some not but thats what lists are about.
