Hi,
I just wanted to share my experience so that those who are new to gnu/linux like me can use it better.
I have an 80 GB hard disk. I had 9 partitions in it. I use both windows and linux. I was using WinImage to create a virtual hard disk and i ruined my partition table. I have a lot of data in my hard disk so I somehow wanted to recover. I googled. I was continuously getting same kind of solution. Noting down the Partition start and end address and creating it again exactly. Since I lost my partition table completely that solution was of no use to me. Then I found an utility called gpart in the live cd (Slax KillBill) (I use a couple of live cds). Using gpart I was able to rebuild my partition table. though I lost one partition(and some important data). Its unbelievably good that it uses some way of determining the start and end address of filesystems in partitions and rebuilds the partition table almost perfectly.
For a newbie like me, it was a great experience and i learnt that gnu/linux can do wonders if u know how to use it.
Regards, Raj

If you want to recover data from a fat partition and your partition table has gone kaput, then use PC Inspector's 'File Recovery' software. It is free and very good in recovering files that have not been overwritten after a partition table crash. Try it out, you may just manage to recover your files even in your newly created partitions. ;)
Regards,
Rony.

This might sound pedantic and be classified as zealotry but still.... It is free as in "price" and not as in "freedom". On this list free generally refers to the freedom. Please refrain from recommending "free as in price" software on this list so as not to confuse the members of this list. This is a GNU/Linux mailing list and not a general computer problem list.
