For the price of a simputer i would be able to purchase a complete headless x86 box based on an AMD and string it to my amp. Jeez no hard feelings here to and simputer folks, somethings look good only in concept.
I will bet my rupaiya on the other mips/risc options out there.

Just to back you up with facts and figures. The AMD configuration that I was about to get before rains kicked out pretty behinds costed Rs.5950 with VAT. It was AMD Sempron 2200+, ASUS A7S8X Mobo, 256MB DDR333. The case would cost you about Rs.1200 and the harddisk would prolly cost Rs.2000 or so if you get a really really cheap one :P So the config fits well within Rs.10000 ;) Though its an overkill for an MP3 player...

I had got my hands on a sempron 2400+ today morning. Its great. The PC was running WinXP SP2. It had 256MB Shared DDR RAM and I think it had the ASUS A7V400 MX mobo. The performance was very good.
Regards, Dinesh.

Does it justify using a 300w storage machine to input music to a 50w amp? Has anyone calcualated bijlee's bill?

Rony.
