To add a new printer to your system, at least in Rh the command is 'printconf-gui' in an xterm window. You could try this out even if you're on another distro. you will have to enter the root password to access it.

Don't forget, if you are going to use this printer as your default one, keep it's name as 'lp'. It's one of the quirks Gnu/Linux has inherited from its Unix roots ;)
