Visited the picopeta site after a long time. They actually had something to sell. You still hear the "lowcost" spiel from them off and on. Here is the price.

Platinum: 10 Simputers, 20 SmartCards, 10 licenses for proprietary software (pricing: Rs. 190,000 in India, US $4,599 overseas)

Gold: 5 Simputers, 10 SmartCards, 5 licenses for proprietary software (pricing: Rs. 98,500 in India, US $2,499 overseas)

Silver: 2 Simputers, 5 SmartCards, 2 licenses for proprietary software (pricing: Rs. 49,000 in India, US $1,299 overseas)

No mention of prices without the proprietory software. That they started the development on libre software and never lost an opportunity to tout the Linux link is a different story i suppose.
