Visited the Indian patent website http://patentoffice.nic.in Browsing thru the applications reveals filings for such things as methods for zooming, play list, graphic equalisers - all in software - filed by the likes of Samsung (who seems to be one major spin master) , TCS (for a software for some business process) and others jerks from Australia, USA etc. All the applications were filed in 2002. The patent office publishes applications every week. http://patentoffice.nic.in/ipr/patent/journal_archieve/ patent_journal_2005.htm We should scrutinise them and alert FSF India where ever software / computers / electronics and prior art is involved. I plan to do this diligently. Ignore this and u are walking into quicksand.

This is absolutely disgusting. I am not gonna buy anything that says "Samsung" on it.

Hmmm... I guess we should.

True. I'll try doing some research on my end as well.

I am boycotting Samsung and i strongly recommend others to do so. Their patent applications stink. They have prior art plastered all over but think nothing of it.
There is an application for Forward Error Correction stuff u have used since 33.6 kbps modem days. Only difference the applicant is applying it to CDMA. The one thing common to most of these is that the patent has been granted by the brain ded monkeys of the USPTO.
There is one by IBM too. It is absolutely disgusting. Many applications seem to describe age old FFT and other DSP routines. I am already shivering. If i had to develop something i would first have to read all these stupid applications, then raise objections @ the rate of Rs.1500/-, then wait to get them overturned, then sit and actually do something useful. Of course in the meant time great innovators like Samsung would be filing new applications ad nauseum (never mind that their cd drives and harddisks fail every year).

Here is a gem from GE Capital Commercial Finance Inc.
"Systems And Methods For Conducting Due Diligence"
Yay. No more due diligence for anything from home loans to credit cards without paying the above bunch.
