A security flaw was found in the core kernel by the Debian developers a day or two ago.
The flaw exists in 2.4.x series and also the 2.6 series. The latest 2.4.23 however fixes the flaw.
This same flaw was exploited to compromise the debian servers sometime last month. As per the devs, the user needs a local account on the machine to exploit this flaw.
