I am trying to put together a list of monitors being used under linux along with their refresh rates for quick reference. It would be great if you could mail me the following information regarding your monitors.
Manufacturer Model Horizontal Refresh Rate Vertical Refresh Rate Max. Supported Resolution
Thank you,
Manish

That would not be enough. The /etc/X11/XF86Config file contains modelines which change according to the Monitor that is selected. If you see closely, every "Monitor" section has a set of default modelines which are not the same for different monitors.
I know because I tried to copy the information you mentioned from my neighbouring PC, in order to configure my monitor, since there is no Xconfigurator in Debian. It wouldn't work, until I looked closely at my XF86Config file and read the commented documentation about modelines.
So if you really want to create a database, you will have to ask people to send their entire "Monitor" section from the XF86Config file.

Thanks for your mail and suggestions Sameer. I am now using RHL 7.1 which has XFree86 4.x which does not use modelines in the configuration file. And IIRC, when we specify the sync rates for a Custom Monitor, the modelines get calculated itself. Otherwise, some modeline calculators are also available. My idea was to have a ready reference for the monitors available in the Indian market - many a times this information is not readily available.

Sometime on Jul 30, Sachin Naik assembled some asciibets to say:
Manufacturer :ViewSonic Model : E653 Horizontal Refresh Rate : 30-70 Hz Vertical Refresh Rate : 50-120 Hz Max. Supported Resolution : 800 x 600 (this is what i have kept)
Viewsonic stopiing at 800x600? Never heard of it. Your max supported resolution is much higher than that. 1280x1024 possibly.

It's ok if you leave the regards out. There's no need to send a new mail just for that. Also, people should be mailing you their monitor info off list. You should mention at the start of the thread (and if you do this, there won't be a thread) that you would like them mailed to you personally.
I guess few people are interested in each other's monitor info, so keep this off the list.
Manish J.
Thank you for the information.
