wtg jtd - *this* is what openource is about - real world solutions in linux. Is the software you use open source stuff - or some proprietory solution of your own?

The backend and frontend is customised as per the clients requirement and is open. Though i doubt it will be useful to anybody since it depends on the access control hardware we make. The hardware includes fingerprint readers, proximity card readers, PIN readers, doorlocks, sensors, framegrabbing, alarms etc. across multiple locations. And this is the simpler stuff.

btw, if you can do *all* this - how come you are unable to install wxPython?

Trust u to ask embarrassing questions. Actually just plain tied up with voip stuff, which has plenty of hardware and is very interesting. Also my wife Punit writes all the software. And my machine runs woody + some backports installing the latest wxPython libs requires several deps to be installed which will break my other stuff. Jeez am i lazy. There is ample scope for business solutions on GNU/linux. Which is what i keep cribing about everytime someone say M$ or wonderful new licence. Also try doing a fraction of the above using M$. Infact just try keeping a system with a closed app like the above running for a few days.
