I got my MTNL bill a few days ago. For the NU Plan the charge is Rs. 590 (unlimited usage 00:00->08:00) plus additional usage charge to the tune of Rs. 6304!
My prime time (08:00->00:00) Internet usage pattern has not changed since I got the DSL service in Apr/05. I suspect there is some billing snafu whereby downloads during 00:00->08:00 have also been counted. Another friend of mine, with the NU plan, got a Rs. 14,000 additional DSL usage charge! Both of us are serviced by the Khar(W) CO.
I have already complained to MTNL in writing but have not heard from them yet.
Anyone on this list experiencing the same? Were you able to resolve it with MTNL? If not, perhaps we can complain to them collectively - pls. contact me off list.

Two points:-
1) Does MTNL have an online data usage checking facility to monitor daily usage?
2) Could it be a problem of their meter not stopping after 0000 Hrs. Those who have triband could try this out. Just before midnight, power off the adsl modem and power it on only after 10-15 min well past midnight. Then it should take this as a fresh login and that will be free time? Just guessing !!

Rony.

Yes, there is an online usage checking facility but is based on login session; it is cummulative of peak and off peak hours. In most cases one session could span several days. However, I use cron to start (00:05) and end (07:55) my downloads so I have some track of bandwidth usage.

This idea is worth a shot - thanks. It could be a glitch in their billing software or in their metering software. If the router had cron I could automate the new login sessions :)

:) What do you use to actually do the download?
Another query, in the triband 399Rs-400MB as well as NU scheme, is the telephone rent (250Rs) included or is that seperate? Some of my clients claim its included, but my uncle got info from mtnl that its extra, in addition to the broadband rent. Only the new 500 scheme with 200 free calls and 250 MB data is all inclusive. What is the actual status, since you have been receiving bills?

I got DSL on an existing land line. The DSL charges are over and above the telephony charges for the line (Rs. 250 rental, std/isd, add'l local calls etc.).

I remember reading somewhere that they require you to switch off at 00.00and 8.00.
