All Hp printers work fine with linux . But now lexmark printers come with the tux logo right on the packaging !. One of the worst supported printers now officially puts the logo on the product .But do make sure they actually work. I just read this http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=lexmark_linux&num...

HP K209a and K109 are a PSC and a printer respectively. Both belong to the 'Ink-Advantage' series from HP. These are unique deskjets that have high yield and low cost cartridges. Very economical for the long run. Black 600 pages and colour 250 pages. Black cartridge should be about Rs. 450/- to 500/- and colour about 550/-. to 600/-.
HP's HPLIP http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html software is excellent for these printers. It also has the ink level indicator, just like the doze based software. Simply download the software according to your distro and run it as a user. In between it will ask for the root password and even clean up older versions of HPLIP. It automatically downloads dependencies and installs them. Once you are ready, just use xsane image scanner for scanning. Printing is setup by running HPLIP from your menu.
