Okay this is what I have:
one linux box running FC4. eth0 connects to the net via a cable modem. This has a static IP address. eth1 is a SMC2802W wi-fi card working (I think :)) with ndiswrapper. This is what I have:
[root@carbon ~]# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:13:20:24:D3:9C inet addr:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX Bcast:202.88.160.191 Mask:255.255.255.224 inet6 addr: fe80::213:20ff:fe24:d39c/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:22175 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1002 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:2044288 (1.9 MiB) TX bytes:120283 (117.4 KiB)

I also have a Sharp Zaurus 5500 w/ Openzaurus 2.5.4rc1. I managed to get a SanDisk cf wi-fi card. I finally got the wi-fi card working with a little help from google. The light in the card goes blink-blink so I know its working.
Now I want to connect my zaurus to my linux box over wi-fi.
On the zaurus the wi-fi card has a ip of 192.168.129.203. I have tried to ping 192.168.129.202 (ip of eth1) fromthe zaurus but am unable to do so. Trying to ping the ip of the zaurus from the linux box gives an error saying detination host unreachable. The lights on the wi-fi card ligt up when I try to ping the zaurus.
What do I need to do ? some pointers please. I can of course provide any more info required.
regards,
Sharukh.

Has your wireless card been setup properly in the zaurus? Run 'mii-tool' without the quotes and see if there is any error. If there is then you need to get your card working properly.

There is no mii-tool package on the zaurus. And as I said, the light on the card starts blinking as soon as the card is acitvated so I think the card is working.

What OS do you use in the zaurus? Is your wireless access point setup to be secure? If so, then that could be the reason why a 'stranger' machine cannot link to it?

Rony.

Maybe I was not clear enough but I _did_ mention that I am using openzaurus 3.5.4rc1 on the zaurus. Besides, I _do not_ have an access point. What I want to connect to is my wi-fi card on my linux box.

Rony.
thanks,
Sharukh.

Oops! I was in another direction thinking your zaurus was a laptop. I went through your first mail again and got your setup clear. I went through the site http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/ and checked up on the pda too. http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT2134869242.html
Your first mail mentions openzaurus 2.5.4. what version are you using?
If its possible for you to cross check, try a friend's wifi enabled laptop with the wifi on your FC4 box to see if that link is ok. Then try your pda wifi to connect to that laptop to cross check if that link is ok. That would help in atleast figuring out where the problem exists.

Rony.
