Hi,
Does anyone know what RC (in bashrc/mailrc/... ) means or how it originated? I mean, is it an acronym? If yes, what does it stand for?
I know: A script file containing the startup instructions for a program (an application or even the operating system). The file, to be executed automatically when the operating system is started, contains a list of instructions (commands or other scripts) to run.
wild guess ... resource configuration :)

"runlevel configuration" also seems possible...
resource config sounds like windows...

'rc' stands for 'run control' and is a a convention adopted from older Unix systems.

rc = run command when it is a suffix as in .bashrc .tcshrc rc.<xxxxxxx> = runtime control as in rc.d/<script>
I vaguely remember reading this somewhere but do not remember though.
