Hi. I'll be in Mumbai between 4/2 and 4/9. If you're having a meeting then, or want to arrange one, I can speak on various topics, like Open Source licensing, or Politics and Technology of the DNS.
I can also bring my One Laptop Per Child XO machine. It's a way cool piece of hardware.
I'm consulting for Rediff.com, so I'll be busy all day. I can probably get away by 7 (they work me hard), and the office is in Mahim West.
I'm leaving in about 41 hours, so act promptly!

:(. I would miss this meet, if it is on April 7 or April 8.
BTW, I remember his exhilaration at FOSS.IN/2006, in the opening ceremony. When the project lead of FOSS.IN/2006 said "It is a community effort and participation is mandatory. You are supposed to ask questions ..." and suddenly he raised his hand and said, (very politely) "So are we supposed to ask questions?"

Well, Sumit (Rajwade, not that you'd know him, he keeps a low profile) said something about working through the long weekend, but I'm all about riding the toy train on Sunday up to Matheran now that it's fixed. Errr, the toy train, not Matheran.

Russ its a small world ! well i actually happen to know him , i studied in the same college ! ( not sure if he knows me )
1) immediate options to think of is if rediff can spare their conf room for sometime 2) another closer option could be VJTI college ( matunga ) given that i m not in bombay these days might need help from others to co-ordinate that. if someone is ready to go and check i can give contact names off the list 3) usual places like KRESIT (IIT bombay) and HBCSE would be quite far for reaching on any given evening. 4) we actually meet up in the toy train ! 5) a evening snack at a coffee shop or a joint like JATC ( in bandra )
lets try to close on the date. then we can try to fix the place

Well, Rediff is in Mahim, and they usually put me up in Vile Parle, although in November the only place they could find was the Comfort Inn down in Byculla. I didn't manage to walk from Mahim to Byculla in one shot, but one time my taxi broke down and I walked the other half, so I travelled the whole way on foot at least once.

Oh, yeah, I lost a day there. I'm leaving Sunday 04:00 IST.

Yes, that would be two different talks, although of course I'd entertain questions on either subject.
But more to the point is you guys setting a time and place and getting the word out in a prompt manner! Newspapers like to get community announcements well in advance of the event.

A previous GLUG-meet was conducted at Open Source Labs in Vile Parle.
The following URL points to an email to the list http://gnowledge.org/pipermail/linuxers/Week-of-Mon-20010611/025930.html
May be this could be a convenient location. (Again, a western suburb for GLUG-meet ;) )

When did our domain change to gnowledge.org? Also, I don't think that place exists anymore. FreeOS closed down many years ago.
Why not just ask rediff to host the meet? :D

Their board room is their largest conference room, and you'd be hard pressed to get more than twenty people in there.

trying to see if we can get VJTI, it will be most central point for everyone and also closer to reach from Mahim ( Rediff ) on a working day. netmagic is goregoan fairly far away from Mahim. will take atleast 1 hrs to reach from Mahim
also there is a place in Santa Cruz they can accomodate us anytime on saturday.
what do others think ?

Not to make this all about me (but I get a vote too), but I'm staying in vileparle and will be working on Saturday in mahim, so it sounds like it's straightforward for *me* to go to the 5 gardens.
I haven't heard anybody object strongly to Saturday at 6PM, but I expect that some people won't be able to make it. There are a few Bawa Internationals IIRC. One is in Juhu Vile Parle, one is at Khira Nagar Vile Parle, and if memory serves me right, one is near the domestic airport, also in Vile Parle.
Also, The Centaur is not a sufficiently good landmark, because there are two Centaurs, the original centaur near the domestic airport, and the newer juhu centaur at Juhu Vile Parle (near Bawa International), which was bought out by Leela, and I have no clue what it's now called.

That one was constructed, then deconstructed, then sold, and is now being litigated before being reconstructed. The usual thing when "public" property goes private.

As the subject line says, Prof. CN Krishnan of NRCFOSS, Chennai is also to be in Mumbai on the 5th of April. Can we have a meet in the evening on 5th? But it'll need to be after around 6 pm.
