Hey consider yourself lucky! 236Kbps isn't bad at all. People have trouble getting even 210Kbps! :(
<Triband Anonymous voice> I am Gishu Pillai. I barely get 128 kbps.
The general opinion is something is wrong at the exchange side. But the MTNL gods are yet to grace me with their presence. Till then "it is welcome to MTNL's 1504 service... Aapan rangeth aahaat!" if they show me where their "rang" ends, I'll bloody hire some mercenaries and mark the spot with a glowing X

Hi! Some time back I had mentioned about getting your own wire installed from the building junction to your comp's location. The standard white wire used by mtnl is too thin. Get a thick guage wire with good insulation. Get it wired by an electrician and let the mtnl guy do the final jointing at the box as thats his territory. You need to reduce your IR losses as well as get a good S/N ratio. Try to avoid any adjacent heavy electrical wiring.
Regards,
Rony.

Open up your modem configuration page and check out the rate at which you are syncing.
