Dear Colleague,
This is to remind you about the following event.
Regards, - Durgesh, on behalf of ACM Mumbai
ACM Seminar Friday, September 28, 2001 - 6:30 p.m. Title: LaTeX: A Document Preparation System Speaker: Vivek Mehta (NCST) Venue: Lecture Theatre, NCST, Juhu
Abstract: LaTeX is a generic typesetting system that uses TeX as its formatting engine. It is most often used for medium-to-large technical or scientific documents, but it can be used for almost any form of publishing. LaTeX is especially great in a heterogeneous computing environment since it is not linked to any computer architecture or operating system. LaTeX is very flexible, easy to use, easy to learn and at the same time it allows professional typographic quality. UNIX users are fond of it, as it follows the ideology of most tools which were originally made for UNIX, i.e. a bit difficult to start with, but very fast (and smooth) once you get to know it. LaTeX has nowadays regained a lot of popularity irrespective of the fact that you have applications like MSWord around. This has a lot to do with the advent and the amazing spread of Linux installations in India and abroad.
About the Speaker: Vivek Mehta works as a scientist in the KBCS division of NCST. He is interested in Natural Language Technology, Data Structures, tools for the UNIX platform and everything else :).

Can a non ACM member attend the Seminar? If yes, I would like to attend the seminar. Is there any formalities to be done prior to attending the seminar, like collecting passes or something similar?
TIA
Warm Regards, $ sonpal -kj

The fact that it was posted on a public board means that it is open to the public. There's no formalities. If it were a private lecture, then the mail would only go to people allowed to attend.
