why use a problem child... use ayttm!
I dont mean anyhting other than that, gaim plugins are available from the gaim home page, there is a link and it has a TON of them some of which are preety interesting.
but yea ayttm is preety good, its solves the purpose of chatting on MSN yahoo IRC preety WELL. ( besides having AIM Jabber ICQ ( not sure if its working ) and SMTP )

MSN and Yahoo plugins for gaim are installed with gaim. You just have to enable them from the plugins menu. A little playing around will get you there. Do not be afraid to experiment.

Yeah, ICQ works through TOC (same as AOL). I believe you could use this to chat between AOL and ICQ accounts, although never tried it. The only people who message me on ICQ all want me to see their webcams or websites ;)

voice chat on msn works through gnomemeeting. We need someone to do the SIP part. Anyone with experience in SIP programming, or interested in learning it, please step forward and join the team.

we don't need bandwidth, we need source code. check my mail sent in reply to amish.
Greetings,
Download the source code for the latest one and install it. All you will have to install is glib-devel and a few other devel package. The gaim that comes with RHL8.0 can be used for all the messengers other than yahoo. Yahoo modified something so there is a need for later version of the messenger. To add plugins for any IM click on the plugins when gaim starts and load them. :-) You can also download amsn (amsn.sourceforge.net) and ymessenger (messenger.yahoo.com -> a link for UNIX on the left on that page)
Bye.

Hello, When I use ymessenger.yahoo for a long time on my RH 7.2, it leaves runaway processes. Everytime I shutdown the messenger, the proceess is not killed, I observed after an uptime of about a week that my machine was getting too sluggish and the culprit were these runaway ymessenger.bins . There were about 50-60 of them running. I have avoided yahoo's messenger since then. Just want to know if someone had a similar problem - and what is the solution? BTW, ayttm looks very similear to everybuddy... Thanks, - Surya

That is so because ayttm is the official heir of everybuddy. Everybuddy died in December. It begat two children. Ayttm the older and eb-lite the younger. While ayttm has gracefully taken over its parent's functions, eb-lite is catching up quick.
