The second sunday of the month is just a few days away and no news of the LUG meet.

Dinesh what happened to the LUG agenda and the wars ?
Are we /having/ a meet this time over? If we are then please let's get some decent agenda discussed here in good time.
Some suggestions ---------------- #1 Charge nominal fee #2 Refreshments #3 Wars (as suggested by Dinesh) #4 a *very* short time for people who want to speak about their activities #5 *informal* discussions on impromptu topics

and also mentioned about the place where it will be held... --- q u a s i quasiabhi@softhome.net wrote:

Why don't we postpone this month's meet to next Sunday? I'll try to get Red Hat to give away some Fedora CDs. For next month's LUG meet, I can get Rajesh Jain (of Netcore and Indiaworld fame) to speak on his vision of Linux for India (his blog on www.emergic.org is worth exploring). I spoke to him and he said he would be happy to be a speaker at the April LUG meet. We can get more speakers from the industry to address the LUGs if that helps attract more participation.

Better thing is to announce the April GLUG meet now with Rajesh Jain as the speaker. I will speak and arrange the venue at Bandra MET, at CDAC training centre. on the second sunday of April which is 11th. If you all agree I will arrange this soon. Please speak to Rajesh and ask him make himself available from 4pm to 6:30pm.

In Fred's column in LiFY, he had suggested that the dates of the LUG meets should be fixed and I tend to agree with this. Unless there is some event (like say, elections) that prevents people from attending, let's not fiddle with the dates. For example, I know that the Ryze mixer is held on the last Friday of every month and I have it marked on my calendar in Ximian.

Morning Folks,
Acceptable. We should have a pre-fixed date for the same which on extraordinary circumstances can be postponed.
I have a very strong feeling that we should have more field events. Events on the following lines:
Advocacy Workshops Seminars Install Fests Picnics
The more we move around, the more we can showcase. TO just share a gist of an article at newsforge,"Advocacy of FSF/OS makes a lot of sense and is necessary but splinter groups achieve less than all of us united".

Is it not possible for us to keep the GNU/Linux advocacy separate from just enjoying GNU/Linux ? I mean, is it necessary that all people who enjoy using GNU/Linux should have an 'holy' agenda of spreading it ?
Seems like this month's meet is not going to happen.
Hello friends, I would like to say that presently it would be better if there were no charges for attending lug meets. Regards. Praveen Shinde.

Would you care to elaborate as to why "it would be better if there were no charges for attending lug meets" ?
The charges which were proposed were not for the benefit of the LUG but for the refreshments of the attendants. A LUG meet without any fun would be no fun to at all. Believe me, I have been to many a such meet.

Would it be more fun if brought in refreshments ? Each guy would bring his secret refreshment. He will eat and sing it's praises loudly. This would make others curious about others' snacks, they might offer to share their snacks with him in the corner (after signing NDAs) and then jointly sing it's praises. Some might break away from one group and join another. The new group can then shout how rotten the previous groups snacks are. The opengroup can keep their recipes on the table and hungry souls without snacks can pick the recipes and decipher it's taste or go home and make snacks whenever they feel like. Hungry souls can also believe the praises / rants of the closed groups and purchase snacks for immediate gratification. They will also sign an agreement that prohibits them from determining the ingredients and disclosing to anyone the top secret patented lsd put in for extra zip.

yeah. surely. It would *add* to the fun. Not that a few of us dont get food at home. An example would be the Girivihar meets at an Irani joint in Dadar (and not in Shivaji Park, say). Another example was the enthusiasm with which everybody flocked to the tea and biscuits, especially the tea, at the last meet.

Well unfortunately, this being a GLUG meet, the guys with the secret refreshments would keep those at home and just bring their open stuff.
