I think you meant dpkg-scanpackages?
Took me a couple of minutes to find out this command. Thanks for the pointer; I didn't know about it.

Sorry for the typo, but tab key is your friend. It is dpkg-scanpackges. I had mailed a detailed list of steps some yrs ago. grep the archives. It's quite simple, but dd is a no brainer.
