Any gotchas that I need to look out for ? They are providing a D-Link modem.
dhcp is not neccessary. U can disable dhcp and set a static ip (in the same subnet as the modems ip). The modems ip can be set to any suitable ip.
Okay this is shaky ground for me. Can you please elaborate _with_ some numerical examples please ?
eg. Modem ethernet ip 192.168.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 Your box ethernet ip which connects to the modem 192.168.2.2 ~ 192.168.2.254 Modem ethernet ip 10.1.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.252 Your box ethernet ip which connects to the modem 10.1.31.2 ~ 10.1.31.3
Any reasons not to go for dhcp ?
None.
The mtnl dns is dicey and goes down sometimes. Use a local dns. One issue will be blocking spam at the mtnl server. Downloading and filtering is pointless.
So mtnl also gives you an email ID too.
Yes.
