Respected Sirs,
I am Akshay Narkar, currently a student (taken drop for IIT). I stay at Mahim. I am interested in using Linux as an OS. I visited some Websites which told me to take help from a Linux group in my area. I tried downloading Ubuntu Linux from net but my connection is a petty 9kBps. Can you please suggest a way so that i can get a copy of Free Linux, along with a users manual from someone in my area?
Thanking you, yours sincerely, Akshay Narkar

oops. Didn't notice the Mahim specification. Apologies. :)
Dear Akshay, I live in Mahim and would be glad to help. I have Ubuntu 9.04 (the latest but one of the popular Ubuntu distro). I would be glad to make a pen drive for you but the problem is that I am leaving for Delhi tomorrow and will not be back till Sunday. Can you wait till Sunday. Sanjay Singhvi

Thanking you, yours
I am located in Santacruz West. I have the 9.10 LiveCDs for x86 and AMD64 and the NetBook Remix.
One of them should get you started with your goals.
Sat/Sun afternoons are the only times I am available. Pls. contact me off list if my location is convenient to you.
Done!
For curious people who want to know what I gave Akshay,
1 - ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso 2 - custom CD 3 - Written note*
this custom CD is created using aptoncd. it includes aptoncd, aptoncd-metapackage, ubuntu-r*-extras
I installed ubuntu on VirtualBox and made a screencast with XVidCap which is a general video (how to) of ubuntu installation in .mpg format. I included this video in Custom CD
*Written note for: installing aptoncd CD (gui way) and partitioning options (1: ext4+swap, 2:ext4+fat32+swap, 3: NTFS/FAT+ext4+FAT32+swap) all partitions are primary and starting from beginning. Swap at end of disk, doubled the size of RAM
Why I did this? AMDX4 + 4GBram + SataHDD + Virtualbox + ubuntu-cdimage + desktop install < 15 Minutes
