I was suggested to read Mastering Regular Expressions by Jeffery Friedl. I am told it is _the_ book to read for regex. When I enquired w/ my bookwalla, he told me that he was told it would have o be oredered from abroad and would cost ~ Rs. 1300/-. And no, I don't think he is trying to rip me off. It's also not available at the roadside booksellers at Fountain.
Does anyone have this book with him ? I would like to first take a look at it before I commit to pay for it.
regards,
Sharukh.

He may be ripping you off. It is available from O'Reilley, in an Indian edition. Not more than Rs250. We have it at NCST library. You can check the examples online at the ora site, and you can also check my acm lecture notes (taken from the book) at http://www.acm.org/chapters/mumbai/
it will be under the past events section.
If you can't find it, I'll mail it to you.

well, we generally get our books from Computer Book Shop - remember to ask for the 20% discount. You can also get them from the roadside stalls in the Fort area - again, ask for the discount.
For perl, good books would be: Learning Perl, Programming Perl, The Perl Cookbook, Mastering Regular Expressions, and some others I can't remember.
The first two may be a little more expensive, but most should be around 250.
Ruby, I don't know about the books, but check the ruby home page.
